This soft tissue pathology course deals with the histopathological evaluation of benign and malignant soft tissue tumours by pathologists. There will be a pattern based approach and we will discuss the differential diagnosis of myxoid, spindle cell, lipomatous, pleomorphic, vascular and round cell tumours, in light of the 2020 WHO classification, as well as new molecular developments. This is an intensive course where lectures are admixed with practical digital slide review sessions. The course will thereby update your knowledge on soft tissue tumour pathology.

Course content
The tutors are all soft tissue tumor pathology experts, and were involved in writing the WHO classification. The course is a mix between lectures and practical slide review and has an interactive format, with a high case load covering all topics in soft tissue tumor pathology.

  • Work up differential diagnosis of myxoid soft tissue tumours
  • Work up differential diagnosis of spindle cell soft tissue tumours
  • Work up differential diagnosis of lipomatous tumours
  • Work up differential diagnosis of pleomorphic soft tissue tumours
  • Work up differential diagnosis of vascular soft tissue tumours
  • Work up differential diagnosis of round cell tumours
  • Work up differential diagnosis of tumoursof uncertain differentiation

Educational objectives
The knowledge obtained during this course will be of value for the soft tissue dedicated consultant pathologist in daily practice. The course is also meant for residents and pathologists that do not sign out soft tissue tumor pathology on a daily basis, as they will get an overview of the various tumours and will be trained in pattern based recognition. Your knowledge will be completely up to date after these three days.

Pre-education:
Pathology (for pathology trainees we advise two years of residency including at least one but preferably two rotations of soft tissue tumour pathology).
