Controller
LUMC is the so-called controller with regards to the General Data Protection Regulation (in Dutch called AVG). This means that LUMC is responsible for ensuring that your personal data is processed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation and in a proper and careful manner.
Personal data we process
Boerhaave Continuing Medical Education (CME) is part of the LUMC. Boerhaave CME processes your personal data because you make use of our services and / or because you provide us with this data yourself. This is an overview of the personal data that we process for the regular courses:
- First and last name, initials
- Gender
- Address
- Medical specialization and / or areas of interest
- BIG number
- Phone number
- Mobile number (for SMS notifications concerning the course for which you registered)
- E-mail address
- Date of birth
Additional for the courses radiation protection (for preparation of exams and forwarding of the diploma):
- Place of birth
- Country of birth
- Study results
- Full first name(s)
- Birth name (= maiden name)
Additional for specific resident courses:
- Training year
- Specialization
- Study results
Additional for specific PHD courses:
- Student number
- Results on the certificate
- Study results
Recording of image and sound material
Boerhaave CME may record image and sound material as part of online education, hybrid courses or promotional purposes. Participants will be made aware of this prior to the course.
Registration and processing customer data
Only personal data that you have provided directly or from which it is evident that it has been provided to us on purpose, will be saved and used in our services. For viewing, modifying or deleting personal data known to us, please contact: boerhaavenascholing@lumc.nl.
Alternatively, you can also log in and adjust your data yourself in “My Boerhaave Nascholing”.
Objectives and principles
The objectives for which your personal data are processed by Boerhaave CME are:
- Providing guidance to participants during their continuing education.
- Identifying continuing education participants.
- Providing information and invoicing regarding the continuing education.
- Sending newsletters based on indicated preferences.
- Crediting of acquired accreditation points.
- Sharing examination results for registration with the professional register.
- In some cases we share your personal data with other parties, for example in the event of legal obligations or collaborative arrangements for the purpose of continuing education. Written agreements are always made with these parties to ensure careful and secure handling of your personal data.
Boerhaave CME processes your personal data on the following principles:
- Necessary for the execution of an agreement
- Legal obligations
- Legitimate interest
How long we keep personal data
LUMC | Boerhaave CME does not retain your personal data longer than is strictly necessary to fulfil the purposes for which your data is collected. In this case, it means that Boerhaave CME will send you all necessary messages regarding your participation for the course you have enrolled for. Boerhaave CME will also keep you informed of courses in your field of study until you indicate that you wish to be removed from our database.
LUMC will use your personal data for processing and will not retain your data after that and in doing so it complies with the Archive Act.
Only the personal data you have provided directly or from which it is evident that it has been provided to us on purpose, will be saved and used in our services.
Sharing of personal data with third parties
Boerhaave CME does not sell your information to third parties. We will only provide your information with third parties if this is necessary for the implementation of our agreement with you and for sending you (course) material related to continuing education for which you have registered. Your personal data will be shared with external educational institutions and/or external teachers if the course(s) in question is/are taught by external educational institutions and/or external teachers in collaboration with Boerhaave CME.
With companies, all within the EU, that process your data on our behalf, we enter into a processing agreement to ensure the same level of security and confidentiality of your data.
Processing data from website visit
LUMC – Boerhaave CME collects and analyses information about the use of the website, such as the number of visitors, the most visited pages and the duration of a visit. The program uses so-called 'cookies' (text files placed on your computer) to analyse how visitors use the site. More information about the cookies legislation and the use of cookies on www.boerhaavecontinuingmedicaleducation.com can be found on the cookies page.
The website may also contain links to third party websites. Although these website (s) have been carefully selected, LUMC - Boerhaave CME bears no responsibility regarding these third parties and the way in which they handle (personal) data
View, modify or delete personal data
You have the right to view, modify or delete your personal data. In addition, you have the right to withdraw your consent for data processing or to object to the processing of your personal data by Boerhaave CME and you have the right to portability of your personal data. This means that you can submit a request to forward the personal data that we hold about you in a computer file to you or another organization appointed by you. You can send a request for viewing, modifying, deleting, data portability of your personal data, request for withdrawal of your consent or objection to the processing of your personal data to boerhaavenascholing@lumc.nl. We will respond as soon as possible, but no later than four weeks, to your request.

Here you can report your dissatisfaction and fill in a digital complaint form. The (patient) service office will inform you as soon as possible about a possible solution and may involve the complaints officer.
In addition, in case of complaints regarding the processing of your personal data by external training institutes and/or external teachers with whom Boerhaave CME cooperates, you can also submit a complaint to the external training institute/teacher in question.
How we protect personal data
Boerhaave CME takes the protection of your data serious and takes appropriate measures to prevent abuse, loss, unauthorized access, unwanted disclosure and unauthorized changes. Boerhaave CME has determined in a work document what may be shared with whom. Within the department, you can approach one person directly with questions. Additionally, questions can also be asked to the relevant officer of LUMC, of which Boerhaave CME is a department.
